Register your charity

The final step is to register your charity. Remember that before you register, you should have:

  • Decided why you wish to set up a charity and for what purpose(s)
  • Confirmed that the purpose (and all purposes) are charitable
  • Checked if there is another way to achieve your charitable objectives (by checking other charities on record and other ways to support your aims)
  • Checked that your charity and its constitution or legal structure is not restricted from carrying out the activities you wish to carry out
  • Confirmed and/or taken advice about the type of legal structure the charity should have
  • Chosen a name for your charity
  • Written your charity’s purpose
  • Prepared a Governing instrument
  • Ensured that the charity meets the ‘public benefit’ requirement by its objectives which must benefit a sufficient cross section of the public

Then you are ready to make an application to register your charity.
