Choose a name for your charity

In order to register a charity, you must select a name which fits with the charitable objectives, or has some other connection to the charity. The Attorney General must consider whether the name is undesirable or misleading, and so you should ensure that any names are appropriate for use as the charity’s name. If the name uses a translation (such as a Manx name), supplemental information should be provided on registration. If the charity is to have a similar name to one in the British Islands, confirmation must be provided for the connection between the two institutions, and that consent has been given by the ‘parent’ charity in the British Islands for the charity in the Island to register using that name.

You cannot register a charity with a name that is the same or similar to another charity.

Check the names of registered charities on the Charities Register.
