Data from the Department of Infrastructure's consultation on public transport and car parking has been released.
The consultation, open to public comment from mid-June to the end of July, received 1,589 responses on questions relating to car parking and 1,711 responses on public transport proposals.
Feedback had been invited from a wide variety of organisations and the general public on options including:
- Charging for school bus services
- Raising the age of entitlement for free bus passes in line with the state retirement age
- Charging Tynwald Members and Government employees for parking spaces
- Charging residents for on-street parking permits
- Charging for parking in central Douglas
In publishing the information, the Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK said:
'I wish to thank the many people who contributed to the consultation. Their views helped to shape the Department's recently announced measures on parking and public transport.
'These revised charging schemes will assist the Department in meeting its challenging budget target for this financial year and the Isle of Man Government in achieving its national priority of rebalancing public finances by 2016.'
