Minister reflects on successful EReg Conference

Friday, 11 May 2012

Department of Infrastructure Minister David Cretney MHK says that hosting the EReg Plenary Board Meeting and Annual Conference provided an opportunity to reinforce the Isle of Man’s status as a co-operative and progressive nation to its international neighbours.

Representatives from 20 European countries visited the Island this week to discuss a range of key issues around vehicle and driver licensing, road safety, and international data exchange. The keynote speech to the members of EReg, the Association of European Registration Authorities, was delivered by Szabolcs Schmidt, the Head of the European Commission’s Road Safety Unit.

Minister Cretney, who opened the event, said:

‘It was a real honour for the Isle of Man to host this annual conference and work with other countries to achieve progress on a number of important matters. Delegates were particularly interested in the Island’s experience of successfully delivering a major international event like the TT Festival which presents many challenges in terms of road safety and traffic management. I also had an opportunity to promote further recognition of Isle of Man driving licences in Europe. The conference was a success and we have strengthened our working relationships with many European countries as a result.’
