Government House is pleased to announce that His Majesty The King, Lord of Mann, has recognised five people in the Isle of Man in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List, which is published on Friday 12 June 2026.
Miss Jane Kelly MBE
His Excellency is delighted that The King has awarded the MBE to Miss Jane Kelly for services to emergency planning and to the veteran community in the Isle of Man.
As the Isle of Man Government’s Emergency Planning Officer, Miss Kelly has played a transformative role in strengthening the Island’s resilience and preparedness for emergencies, major incidents and critical events. She is highly respected for her calm authority, sound judgement and expert advice, and is regarded as a leading professional within her field both locally and beyond the Island.
Since her appointment, she has led the complete revision of the Isle of Man Government’s Major Incident Response Plan and coordinated the development of a comprehensive suite of emergency plans across government and partner agencies. Her leadership has significantly enhanced multi-agency coordination and operational readiness.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Miss Kelly mobilised and led the Civil Defence Corps in supporting vulnerable members of the community, helping to deliver a sustained and effective response during an unprecedented period of public health crisis.
Alongside her government role, Miss Kelly has given exceptional voluntary service to the Island’s veteran community. A former Royal Air Force Warrant Officer and Commissioned Officer, she has served for over a decade as Secretary and Welfare Officer of the Isle of Man Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association and is also Secretary of the Joint Ex-Service Association. In these roles, she has provided tireless support to veterans and their families and played a central role in commemorative and ceremonial events across the Island.
Miss Claire McCabe MBE
His Majesty the King has awarded the MBE to Miss Claire McCabe for services to the Royal British Legion and to the Veteran Community in the Isle of Man.
Miss McCabe has given distinguished service to the Royal British Legion at both national and international level, holding the role of Isle of Man County and UK National Standard Bearer and representing the Legion at major commemorative events across the world.
She began her service as Standard Bearer for the Port Erin Branch before continuing her involvement through Port St Mary and in wider Legion roles, including Poppy Appeal support and coordination. Her achievements include winning successive County, Regional, and National Standard Bearer competitions, making her the only person to have held both the Women’s Section and National titles.
Miss McCabe has represented the Royal British Legion at significant national and international commemorations, including events marking D-Day in Normandy, VE Day, the Falklands War anniversary, the Centenary Service at Westminster Abbey, and the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. She also carried standards at the funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and at the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
In addition to her ceremonial role, Miss McCabe has served as a Police Officer, during which she received Chief Constable’s Certificate of Merit for bravery and conduct. She now mentors and trains a new generation of Standard Bearers, ensuring the continuation of high standards within the Royal British Legion.
DC Kate Crompton KPM
Detective Constable Kate Crompton is awarded the King’s Police Medal for distinguished service in the investigation of serious sexual offences and for her exceptional support to victims and their families.
Throughout her career, Detective Constable Crompton has demonstrated outstanding professionalism, resilience and compassion in investigating some of the most serious and complex sexual offences brought before the courts. Her investigative skill and determination have led to the conviction of numerous dangerous offenders, including serial perpetrators and individuals who abused positions of trust.
She is widely respected for the care and support she provides to victims throughout highly traumatic investigations and court proceedings, helping many vulnerable individuals through exceptionally difficult circumstances whilst securing successful prosecutions and significant custodial sentences.
Alongside her operational work, Detective Constable Crompton has also dedicated considerable time to mentoring and developing new detectives, supporting the next generation of investigators within the Constabulary.
Her work has attracted praise from colleagues, prosecutors and members of the judiciary alike, and she is recognised as an investigator of exceptional ability, integrity and dedication.
Mrs Margaret Quilliam RVM (Silver)
Mrs Margaret Quilliam is awarded the Royal Victorian Medal (Silver) for her devoted and exemplary service to Government House, Isle of Man.
Mrs Quilliam has given over 30 years of loyal service to Government House, initially as Assistant Housekeeper from 1994 until her retirement in 2008, when she stepped down reluctantly to care for her terminally ill husband. Her departure was greatly regretted, reflecting the very high regard in which she was held.
Following her retirement, Mrs Quilliam returned to Government House on a part-time basis, providing valued support during periods of staff absence and for major official engagements. In doing so, she has continued to play a vital role within the Household.
Throughout her service, Mrs Quilliam has supported a wide range of Royal and Vice-Regal occasions, including visits, investitures, receptions, lunches and dinners. She is recognised for consistently maintaining the highest standards, together with exceptional diligence, flexibility and attention to detail.
Most recently, she provided full cover during a prolonged staff absence, undertaking the full responsibilities of Assistant Housekeeper with energy, professionalism and commitment. Her willingness to adapt to any requirement and ensure the smooth running of Government House has been of immense value.
Mrs Quilliam is widely respected for her discretion, reliability and unfailing good humour. She is held in the highest regard by colleagues and senior officeholders alike, and her contribution to Government House has been truly outstanding.
Mrs Moira Chrystal BEM
Mrs Moira Chrystal is awarded the British Empire Medal by His Majesty The King for services to local government and to the Community in Ramsey, Isle of Man.
Mrs Chrystal has given continuous and dedicated service to the Ramsey Town Commissioners for over 50 years. Beginning her career in the Town Surveyor’s Department, she progressed to become Personal Assistant and Secretary to the Town Clerk and Chief Executive, supporting more than forty Chairmen and six Town Clerks throughout her tenure.
She is widely recognised for her exceptional knowledge of local government administration and the history of the Commissioners and has played a key role in the organisation of local elections and civic governance over several decades.
In addition to her administrative duties, Mrs Chrystal serves as a Public Registrar, where her professionalism, attention to detail, and compassionate approach are highly valued by the community she serves.
A lifelong resident of the north of the Island, she has also contributed extensively to local life through church activities, amateur dramatics, and civic events. Her work has supported major occasions including Royal visits and the granting of the Freedom of Entry to HMS Ramsey in 2010.
Mrs Chrystal continues to serve with energy, dedication and resilience, remaining a cornerstone of the Commission’s work and the wider Ramsey community.
