Civic amenity sites

There are four Civic Amenity Sites on the Island providing facilities for local residents to deposit items of general bulky household waste which will not fit into the household waste bin (e.g. washing machines, kitchen units). The Sites also provide a recycling service for a number of materials including lead acid batteries (e.g. car batteries); dry cell batteries (e.g. rechargeable or single use batteries); scrap metal; garden waste; glass; cans; plastic bottles; paper and clothing.

All Island Civic Amenity sites are not operated by the department, we advise to contact the individual site if you have any queries regarding the opening hours and services provided.

Potentially hazardous household waste including fridges/freezers, televisions, computer monitors and fluorescent lamps are accepted for recycling. Charges for disposing of a fridge or freezer at the Island's Civic Amenity sites are set to increase with effect from Thursday 1 December as a result of recent changes in the UK that have led to a sharp rise in reprocessing costs.

From 1 December 2016 the following charges will apply at all Civic Amenity sites:

ItemCost
Under-counter fridge up to 50kg £15
Chest fridge/freezer up to 100kg £25
American-style fridge 150kg+ £50
PC monitors £6
TV's £8

Alternatively there is a home collection service provided by Manx Waste Solutions, Tel: +44 7624 495327.

Disposal of Tyres

Civic Amenity sites are not able to accept any car or motorbike tyres for disposal. These tyres require bespoke storage and handling which the facilities are not able to provide. Please take all tyres to a professional tyre fitter where old tyres will be disposed of responsibly. Old bicycle tyres/inner tubes are accepted.
