There is just a week to go until the Island’s first Isle Be Ready community drop‑in session, and residents are being encouraged to go along and learn how to prepare for emergencies and stay safe during unexpected events.
The session will take place at Andreas Parish Hall on 12 February from 3pm to 7pm, bringing together representatives from a wide range of emergency and public services, including:
- Isle of Man Constabulary
- Ambulance Service
- Emergency Planning Unit
- Civil Defence
- Fire and Rescue Service
- Department of Infrastructure
- Public Health
- Coastguard
- Manx Utilities
Attendees will be able to gather practical advice on what every household should know and have ready in case of an emergency. Key topics will include:
- Essential items to keep at home for emergencies or severe weather
- Steps to protect your family and pets
- How to keep your home and personal belongings safe
Emergency Planning Officer Jane Kelly said:
‘With just a week to go until our first Isle Be Ready event, we’re encouraging everyone to drop in and speak to the teams who help keep our Island safe.
‘These sessions are designed to help people think about how they would cope with situations such as having no power, no internet, no mains water, or dealing with weather‑related damage—and how to reduce the impact of those events.
‘Colleagues from across government will be on hand to offer advice on a wide range of topics to help our communities become more resilient. Some of this information will be essential during an emergency, while other guidance may be useful in day‑to‑day life.
‘We look forward to welcoming everyone in the community to come along and have a chat with us.’
Additional resources and guidance will be made available online for those unable to attend, and further Isle Be Ready events will take place in other locations throughout the year.
