Campers using the Sulby Claddaghs will pay a £15 fee for a permit from this year if Tynwald gives the go-ahead.
Richard Ronan MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, will this month seek the Court’s approval to introduce the charge.
As in previous years, a permit would allow camping over the Easter weekend and the whole summer season, which runs from 1 May to 30 September.
A maximum stay of 14 days at a time would still apply.
Provided Tynwald approves the fee, applications can be made online via www.gov.im/camping from Monday 23 March.
Campers will also be able to purchase permits in person or by post via: Sulby Claddagh Camping Permit, Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, Thie Slieau Whallian, St John’s. Cheques should be made payable to the Isle of Man Government.
The introduction of the fee was flagged up in Minister Ronan’s Budget speech.
‘As the popularity of camping increases at the Claddaghs, the Department has additional running costs,’ said the Minister. ‘The introduction of a small fee for the issue of a permit will go some way to covering these costs.’
