Following recent high profile publicity regarding damage to the upland tracks, the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is asking TT visitors and locals to ride responsibly when exploring the Island’s Greenway Roads.
During the past week, the Department has become aware of groups of trail riders straying from the upland tracks onto open heathland. Yesterday four visiting riders were apprehended, through a joint operation between Police and Wardens, whilst riding over heathland near to Snaefell. Earlier this week, another four riders were stopped from riding over heathland below the Verandah.
This is also a particularly sensitive time of year for wildlife especially for ground nesting birds. It is an offence to disturb these birds and Forestry staff patrol the hills enforcing the relevant Byelaws.
The message is simple; please respect the Manx countryside and when riding the Greenways,stay on the right trackand don’t ride on to open heathland.
