More IoM based higher education students than ever to graduate at 2012 Annual Awards Ceremony

Thursday, 18 October 2012

At the awards ceremony at St German’s Cathedral in Peel on 19 October 74 students will receive higher education awards in a range of subjects, including 2 first class honours degrees in computer sciences and the first 2 graduates of the work based and integrative studies degree programme.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Chester, Professor Tim Wheeler, will present the awards which have been conferred by both Chester and Liverpool John Moore’s universities.

What makes this occasion a highlight of the Island's educational calendar is that all these students achieved their awards through studying here on the Island at the IoM College of Further and Higher Education. Support is provided for students to pursue higher education in the UK, however the opportunities to study on Island either full time or whilst remaining at work have and are increasing.

John Lindon, of Isle of Man Bank who sponsor the event, said: 'Education is an important focus area of our Community Investment sponsorship on the Island and our Isle of Man Bank partnership with the Higher Education Awards at Isle of Man College supports recognition of students for their well-earned success.'

Students and their friends and families will attend the ceremony at St German's Cathedral, Peel, at 3pm on Friday 19 October, followed by refreshments in the Corrin Hall.
