The Department of Education and Children, Manx Arts Development (formerly of the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure), is inviting applications for 2014 Easter and Summer Film Schools.
Film Schools are now in their eighth year and have become an established training ground for aspiring film-makers. The Easter event between 14-16 April will be for ages 8 – 12 and the second for ages 13 – 18 will be from 21-23 April. The Summer Film Schools will be from 11-13 August for 8-12 year olds and from 18-20 August for 13-18 year olds.
Film school delivers a comprehensive film making course, age and ability appropriate, for young people with varied (or no) previous experience. It includes all aspects of film making and provides opportunities for participants to experience aspects of film making which are new to them and advanced techniques for those with more experience. Tutoring will be provided for various film genres, including
animation, and each participant completes at least one film project, individually or as part of a group.

“Film School remains an important opportunity that we can offer. Film making on the Isle of Man continues to develop and grow and we provide a starting point for young people who wish to learn for fun or to develop their skills with a career in film making in mind. Additionally, like most creative activities, Film School encourages discipline, team work and innovation.”
Film School will once again be delivered by local film makers who have extensive experience in film making on Island and internationally and who also run the short film development scheme, Mannin Shorts.

“Running the Mannin Shorts training scheme, we are not only aware of how much creative talent there is on the Isle of Man, but also how important it is to nurture the younger talent. With the proper guidance and support of these films schools, which we were thrilled to take on in 2012 for Manx Arts Development, we hope to not only help inspire filmmakers of the future, but also to make them aware of the excellent opportunities available to them on the island and beyond."
Participants can enter their films into the Young FilmMaker of Mann Competition organised by Manx Arts Development, which offers a top prize of £200 and prizes of £100 for category winners. Selected entries will be shown during the Isle of Man Film Festival in September.
