The Isle of Man Government welcomes the announcement of a temporary ceasefire in the Middle East and hopes it will provide a foundation for permanent de-escalation.
We recognise that this remains a fragile situation. Our thoughts are with all those impacted, particularly Manx residents with family, friends or other close connections in the region.
The Government is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and potential implications for the Isle of Man. Agencies throughout Government are working together and with external partners to ensure that we are well-informed and prepared to respond should circumstances change.
We are particularly aware of public concern about fuel supplies and prices. At present, there is no issue with the supply of any fuel to the Isle of Man. The Island continues to receive adequate deliveries, and the Government is in close and regular contact with fuel suppliers, who are confident that supplies will continue. We thank members of the public for avoiding unnecessary stockpiling and for considering the needs of others when refilling vehicles or ordering fuel.
While fuel prices have risen in recent weeks, petrol, gas and heating oil prices currently remain lower than they were in 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine.
The Government is mindful of the potential inflationary impact of the ongoing conflict and wider global uncertainty. The Treasury Minister will provide an economic update to Tynwald later this month, outlining the broader situation and the Government’s economic response.
In addition, the Government’s Economic and National Strategy Board continues to meet weekly to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, the Government's Cost of Living website has been updated with the latest advice and signposting for support.
The interest, safety and wellbeing of Manx residents - both at home and abroad - is our first priority.
