European Union Sanctions: Central African Republic 

The Treasury advises that on 20th March 2014 Council Regulation (EU) No 224/2014 was applied in Island law. 

The Council Regulation imposes prohibitions and restrictions on – 

  • the provision of technical assistance or brokering services relating to military goods and technology, or relating to the provision, manufacture, maintenance or use of such goods and technology in or for use in the Central African Republic; 
  • financing or financial assistance related to the sale, supply, transfer or export of such goods and technology; and 
  • technical assistance, financing or financial assistance, brokering services or transport services related to the provision of armed mercenary personnel in or for use in the Central African Republic. 

The Council Regulation also provides for an asset freeze and a prohibition on making funds or economic resources available to designated persons or entities. However, to date, no such person or entity has been designated.
