Two key appointments have been made within the senior management team of the Department of Health and Social Care.
Brian Deadman has been appointed as Deputy Chief Executive and Financial Controller, and Tim Mansfield has been appointed as Director of Commissioning.
Commenting on the appointments, Chief Executive of the Department of Health and Social Care, Mark Charters, said:
'We have been shaping and strengthening the Department's senior management team over the past nine months to fill a number of vacant key roles. There is still work to do, with some posts currently filled on an interim basis, but the appointment of Brian and Tim is a significant step forward and will help us to deliver our emerging strategy to modernise the Island's health and social care services.
'With Tim in post we will be able to begin to strengthen our commissioning arrangements to ensure that patients receive high quality care and taxpayers receive value for money.
'Brian will lead the corporate services division of the Department. Strengthening this central core is a vital step to ensure that frontline services are adequately supported to deliver good care.'
Brian Deadman is an accomplished business leader with over 25 years’ experience in public, private and voluntary sectors, leading teams to improve organisational effectiveness. Most recently, Brian was Director of Operations for Oxfam International.
Brian said:
'When offered the opportunity to help build world class health and social care on the Island, I grabbed it with both hands, knowing I will need to win the trust of a close community to succeed. First impressions are encouraging, in terms of people and resources. As someone who has enjoyed island life across the globe, the Isle of Man appears to be a little gem and I intend to help make it shine.'
Tim has 25 years' experience in the English NHS, most of it at a senior level. This has included leading commissioning organisations, working in public health and developing partnerships with the public, service users, third sector and local authorities. Most recently, Tim has been Associate Programme Director for Healthier Lancashire, responding to the challenges posed by an ageing population.
Tim said:
'I am really excited to be joining the team at the Department of Health and Social Care. Whilst some of the issues that the Isle of Man faces are similar to those in the UK, there is a real opportunity to work with local people and staff to develop solutions that meet the needs of the Island.'
