Friday, 24 October 2025

Noble’s Hospital is delighted to announce the opening of its new Stroke Unit on Ward 4, marking a major milestone in the hospital’s commitment to delivering outstanding care for stroke patients.

Opening on 27 October 2025, the purpose-built facility features dedicated therapeutic spaces, modern bathroom amenities, and a redeveloped courtyard to support rehabilitation and outdoor mobility. The new unit is designed to provide high-quality stroke care and enhance recovery for patients across the Isle of Man.

Jill Horsey, Lead Stroke Nurse for Manx Care, said:

‘Stroke strikes suddenly, leaving no time to adapt. Accessible, specialised stroke unit care is proven to have the greatest impact on recovery. Thanks to the support of three charities, our new unit offers spacious indoor and outdoor rehabilitation areas designed to meet the needs of those affected by stroke. We are very excited to open this unit and improve stroke care on the Isle of Man.’

Dr Thomas, Consultant Physician, added:

‘It has been a long dream to have more space for our stroke patients, for their therapies and care. We are thankful to everyone who made this move possible.’

The Stroke Unit features:

  • Dedicated therapeutic spaces: Including a fully equipped gym and kitchen, enabling patients to regain strength and independence through tailored rehabilitation activities

  • Modern bathroom facilities: Designed for accessibility and comfort, supporting patient dignity and safety

  • Redeveloped courtyard: A redeveloped courtyard to meet families without affecting patient rehabilitation, a quiet space to allow people to focus on language and cognitive therapy

  • Specialist care environment: The unit is designed to deliver high-quality stroke care, with a focus on both acute treatment and ongoing rehabilitation

Teresa Cope, CEO of Manx Care, commented:

‘These improvements reflect our commitment to delivering the highest standards of care for our community. We are grateful for the support of our partners and look forward to the positive impact these changes will bring for patients, families and staff alike.’

The hospital extends its thanks to the Manx Stroke Foundation, Friends of Noble’s Hospital, Noble’s Hospital Charitable Trustees, and patients for their generous contributions.
