Isle of Man Railways received three Red Wheel plaques this weekend.
The Red Wheels bestowed by The Transport Trust are the equivalent in railway terms to blue heritage plaques.
The first was unveiled by Director of Public Transport Ian Longworth at Douglas Station. It states:

Opened in 1873 as the hub of a 46-mile network of 3ft (914mm) gauge steam railways serving Peel, Ramsey, Foxdale and Port Erin – which still operates
Mr Longworth said:
‘This is a huge honour for the Isle of Man and is recognition for the Isle of Man Government’s significant investment over many years in our three heritage railways.’
The Transport Trust has brought more than 70 members to the Island to celebrate its 50th anniversary and during the festivities it will unveil a further two new Red Wheels for Isle of Man Railways:
- On Saturday (9 May) a Red Wheel was unveiled at the Manx Electric Railway depot by Lord O’Neill, vice president of The Transport Trust.
- And on Sunday (10 May) at Laxey Station, a Red Wheel honouring the Snaefell Mountain Railway was unveiled at Laxey Station by local historian and tram enthusiast Andrew Scarffe.
