NT Live Obsession Landscape Listings Image InternationalThursday 11 May sees the launch of the Northern Theatre Experience – Live Screening Theatre events at Ramsey Grammar School in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre.

Obsession”, starring Jude Law will be the inaugural production, preceded by a complimentary reception for ticket holders at Milntown. This initiative has been made possible by the support and encouragement of the IOM Arts Council who provided the school with a start-up grant to provide the facilities necessary to create an experience to rival other live screening venues, including the “home of live screening” Ballakermeen High School! The Arts Council have been the driving force behind this as part of their remit to provide opportunities to access the arts. Live Screening programmes at venues like Ramsey Grammar School ensure that the Manx public has access to performances and exhibitions from all over the world.

Headteacher, Annette Baker said

'We are really excited to bring this fantastic initiative to the north of the island and are delighted that Ramsey Grammar School will be at the heart of it. The people of the north of the island will now be able to take up this opportunity to see live theatre events, including productions from the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Opera House without having to travel on the mountain road! I take this opportunity to thank members of the Arts Council for their support and encouragement which has made it possible to provide this new entertainment facility for the northern community.'

Emma Callin, Arts Development Manager said

'Attending a live screened performance brings all the same high quality you expect from the West End or RSC, for example, but without the need for island residents to pay for a plane ticket and hotel for the night. The opportunities to see internationally renowned performers and productions at a fraction of the usual cost is something the Arts Council have been very keen to introduce, allowing access to the arts for everyone.'

Tickets are on sale for the inaugural show via the Villa Gaiety box office. Those purchasing tickets before Thursday 4 May will also be invited to a complimentary drinks and refreshments reception at Milntown at 5pm.
