Year Seven pupils at Ramsey Grammar School spent Thursday morning (12th March) planting trees in a selected area of the school grounds as their initial contribution to the Ramsey Forest Project. The Project is the thirty-year initiative of the Manx Wildlife Trust and was launched in January this year.
Ramsey Forest will become the Isle of Man's first community forest and will link and extend existing plantations, glens and ancient woodlands between Ramsey and Sulby. It will become a mixed woodland that will add to the amenity value of the North of the Island and enable native plants and wildlife to flourish. The Wildlife Trust envisages that local organisations will also be involved in developing leisure facilities and sporting opportunities within the Forest.
The RGS planting activity was organised by Mrs Wendy Imbraguglio, Head of Year Seven in cooperation with the school's grounds staff and Mr. Andree Dubbeldam of the Manx Wildlife Trust.
Mrs. Imbraguglio said:
"The children really enjoyed the tree planting, especially as we had such a warm and sunny day. The planting was the children's legacy for the future."
