Emergency funding from the Isle of Man is supporting efforts to prevent the spread of a deadly disease in Sierra Leone.
An outbreak of Ebola has already claimed the lives of hundreds of people in the Kailahun District of the country.
The International Development Committee of the Council of Ministers is assisting the humanitarian response by donating £50,000 to Save the Children.
The charity is working in Kailahun, Pujehun and Freetown to minimise the risk of the disease spreading to other parts of Sierra Leone.
Programmes are also being rolled out to support and train community health workers and to ensure children and young people have access to appropriate levels of information about Ebola.
Phil Gawne MHK, Chairman of the International Development Committee, said:
‘This disease has a death rate of up to 90%, so it is vital that the emergency response is swift and decisive. The Isle of Man’s contribution will help Save the Children deliver important education and healthcare support to those who need it most.’
