Young FilmMaker of Mann 2014

Monday, 11 August 2014

The Young FilmMaker of Mann 2014 competition enables young individuals and groups on the Island to showcase their talent for filmmaking. The search for entries begins this month, with the closing date for entries on Monday, 1 September 2014 at midday.

Key aims of the Government’s National Arts Development Strategy 2005 - 2014 are to develop arts in education and to contribute through the arts to the Island’s prosperity.

Emma Callin, Department of Education and Children’s Community Arts Development Manager, said:

'This well established competition, which has been led by the Manx Arts Development team for six years, provides us with the opportunity to recognise young peoples’ skills in film, video and multimedia. As part of the Isle of Man Film Festival, the competition helps to enhance and develop the Island-based multimedia industry by encouraging young people to succeed in filmmaking.'

Young filmmakers aged 18 and under can apply to enter the competition in seven categories: comedy, drama, documentary, experimental, music video, advertisement and animation.

Shortlisted entries will be screened as part of the Isle of Man Film Festival organised by MannIN Shorts at the Broadway Cinema on Sunday, 14 September.  Category winners will be awarded £100 and the overall competition winner will receive a trophy and £200.

Rory Dorling, winner of the Mannin Shorts Isle of Man Film Festival 2013 with his short film ‘Paper Journey’ said:

'It's great to see the Young FilmMaker of Mann taking place again this year.  I believe it's an exciting opportunity for young filmmakers to display their talent and gain recognition.  It gave me the encouragement to continue making films and pursue my career in the industry.'

As well as working freelance on various productions, Rory also manages his own company specialising in story-driven promotional content for organisations.

Competition entry forms can be obtained from Manx Arts Development on +44 1624 694598, or email manxartsdevelopment@gov.im and via our website www.iomarts.com.
