Switzerland’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Dominique Paravicini, visited the Isle of Man last week, to explore ongoing cooperation, particularly in the finance sector.
Mr Paravicini was joined by his wife Fabienne and the First Secretary for Financial Affairs at the Swiss Embassy in London, Mr Edouard Laurent.
The Ambassador met with the Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK and the Treasury Minister Chris Thomas MHK before being hosted at Government House by the Lieutenant Governor. This included a dinner attended by representatives from the finance sector, regulators and Government.
The Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK said:
'Continuing to build and strengthen relationships with diplomats posted to the United Kingdom offers us the unique opportunity to showcase in person our wonderful Island to influential figures from around the globe. As well as building vital relationships and links, diplomats can see and experience for themselves our stunning scenery, the strength of our community, and the diversity of our economy.
'I was pleased to meet with His Excellency and strengthen the bonds between the Isle of Man and Switzerland. We enjoyed strong ties with Mr Paravicini’s predecessor, and I believe this visit has helped us to cement an enduring relationship.'
As well as meetings with industry, political representatives and government officials, Mr Paravicini also took time to visit the Laxey Wheel, and businesses in Sulby and Douglas during his time on the Island.
