UK–India Free Trade Agreement: Register to Complete Origin Declarations

Wednesday, 25 February 2026

The UK-India Free Trade Agreement establishes a preferential trade framework governing trade in goods between the United Kingdom and India. To qualify for preferential tariff rates under the agreement, exporters must demonstrate that their products satisfy the agreement’s rules of origin.

Exporters can register with HMRC if they are planning to complete origin declarations for exports under the UK-India Free Trade Agreement. By registering, exporters can self‑certify the origin of their goods, eliminating the requirement to obtain a certificate of origin for every consignment and potentially qualifying for preferential tariff rates.

Exporters can still trade with India without registering, but goods may not receive preferential tariff rates if origin declarations are not used.
