Deputy Chief Minister Jane Poole-Wilson MHK represented the Isle of Man at the Channel Islands Liberation Day reception at Speaker’s House in the Palace of Westminster earlier this week.
Senior representatives from the Crown Dependencies, UK Government and the diplomatic community attended the event on Tuesday 28 April, which commemorates the end of the Nazi occupation of the Channel Islands during the Second World War.
During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister met with the UK Deputy Prime Minister and Lord Chancellor, Rt Hon David Lammy MP, to discuss the strong and constructive relationship between the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom, and continued cooperation on areas of mutual interest.
The Deputy Chief Minister also met with representatives from Guernsey and Jersey, reinforcing the Island’s close working relationships with the other Crown Dependencies and showing support on an important commemorative occasion.
The Deputy Chief Minister said:
‘The Channel Islands Liberation Day reception is an important opportunity to recognise our shared history and to honour the resilience of island communities.
‘It was an honour to attend, to show our support for the Channel Islands, and to strengthen our relationships with partners across the Crown Dependencies and the UK.’
The Deputy Chief Minister attended the reception as part of a wider programme of engagement on the Island’s interests with British parliamentarians.
