The first annual report on the Carers’ Strategy 2024-2034 has been published, outlining the progress made during Phase One (June 2024 to September 2025) and looking ahead to future commitments.
Approved by Tynwald in June 2024, the 10-year strategy sets out a shared long‑term vision to better recognise, value and support carers, acknowledging their essential contribution to those with care needs and to the wider community.
Over the past year, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has worked closely with Isle of Man Government partners and third‑sector organisations to begin delivering the commitments in the strategy action plan.
The report highlights key achievements, including the 2025 Carers’ Awareness Campaign leading to a spike in referrals reported by Crossroads, publication of the State of Caring Report 2024-2025, increased GP carer registrations, improved online resources and the development of carers safeguarding guidance. Existing actions continuing into Phase Two will be covered in the period September 2025-September 2026 and reported on by December 2026.
Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian MHK writes in her foreword to the report:
‘The Carer Strategy Steering Group is now meeting regularly and building strong momentum, with a clear focus on accelerating delivery. This strategy continues to be a shared priority across Government and our third sector partners, and we remain firmly committed to achieving better outcomes for carers.
‘Carers are a vital part of our Island’s health and social care system and supporting them effectively is central to our collective vision for a more resilient and compassionate community.’
