It is the responsibility of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to ensure consumers are protected from unscrupulous traders who are found to be breaching consumer protection legislation and the OFT has powers under the Fair Trading Act 1996.
The OFT actively monitors various markets on the Island and publishes data monthly:
Investigations
The OFT is given increased powers under the Fair Trading Act to deal with the anti-competitive practices of individuals or businesses and can also undertake price investigations. The OFT publishes any investigations it has carried out once a conclusion has been reached.
