This news release advises of the updating of EU Sanctions re Al-Qaida, North Korea and the Central African Republic

European Union Sanctions: Al-Qaida, North Korea and Central African Republic

On 17 May 2016, the following Orders were approved by Tynwald:

European Union (Al-Qaida Sanctions) (Amendment) Order 2016

This Order applies the provisions of Council Regulation (EU) 2016/363 of 14 March 2016, as amended by the Schedule to the Order, as part of the law of the Island.

This EU Regulation amends Council Regulation (EC) No 881/2002, clarifying terminology, updating text, and renaming Council Regulation (EC) No 881/2002 to include reference, in addition to Al-Qaida, to persons and entities associated with the ISIL (Da’esh) organisation.

European Union (North Korea Sanctions) (Amendment) Order 2016

This Order applies the provisions of Council Regulation (EU) 2016/465 of 31 March 2016, as amended by the Schedule to the Order, as part of the law of the Island.

This EU Regulation amends Council Regulation (EC) No 329/2007 to provide for derogations to allow persons and entities to obtain insurance from Korea National Insurance Corporation (KNIC) for activities to be carried out in North Korea; for EU persons or entities to be allowed to receive payments by KNIC derived from such insurance or in respect of damage caused within the territory of the Union; and permit the unfreezing of KNIC’s funds needed for payments due under a prior contract.

European Union (Central African Republic Sanctions) (Amendment) Order 2016

This Order applies the provisions of Council Regulation (EU) 2016/555 of 11 April 2016, as amended by the Schedule to the Order, as part of the law of the Island.

This EU Regulation amends Council Regulation (EU) No 224/2014 to include new designation criteria for targeted asset freezes.
