Applications to become a British Citizen

Thursday, 26 November 2015

The Isle of Man Nationality Office has now resumed the processing of applications from persons seeking to become British Citizens.

The service had been suspended since April this year during implementation of new rules requiring biometric information to be included as part of an application.

People can normally apply for British Citizenship if they have lived in the United Kingdom or Crown Dependencies for at least five years, or three years if they are married to a British Citizen.

Applicants must also be of good character, able to speak and understand English, and show knowledge of life in the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man.

The next English speaking and listening test to be provided locally will be at the Isle of Man College on December 17. This will be the IELTS (International English Language Test System) B1 Life Skills test, for which applicants should register direct at the following website https://ieltsukvisas.britishcouncil.org/#/select-country
