Isle of Man Public Transport

Isle of Man Public Transport is a division of the Department of Infrastucture.

Public Transport operates bus services throughout the Island as Bus Vannin every day except Christmas Day, plus a unique network of heritage railways for an extended season:

  • The Isle of Man Steam Railway, dating from 1873, which operates along a 15¾ mile line between Douglas and Port Erin in the south.
  • The Manx Electric Railway, opened in 1893, which carries people on electric trams along a 17½ mile route taking in the spectacular scenery between Douglas and Ramsey via Laxey.
  • The Snaefell Mountain Railway is a unique Victorian enterprise that was built in 1895. The tramway winds from Laxey village on the east coast to the summit of Snaefell, the Island’s only official mountain at 2036 feet above sea level.

Free timetables for all bus and rail services can be obtained from the Welcome Centre at Douglas Sea Terminal or from the bus and rail pages. Details of special events and dining experiences are also available. Season tickets, multi-journey and Explorer tickets can be purchased from the Welcome Centre for both bus and rail travel on the Island.
