A claim has been made against me, what do I do?

Do I have to respond to the received application?

When you have been served a copy of the applicant’s application for financial provision, you do not need to respond in writing to the applicant or the court. On the application there will be the time and date of the directions hearing, you must attend.

Do I have to send anything to the court?

No. Any information you have that will be relevant to the court proceedings should be brought with you to the directions hearing.

What if I do nothing and don't attend the directions hearing?

If you fail to turn up to court for a hearing, the Deemster may proceed to make an order in your absence.
