Custody Support Officers

During the first 3 days in custody which will be spent on the Prison induction wing all prisoners are allocated 2 Custody Support Officers. The Custody Support Officers will meet with their allocated prisoners prior to their relocation to their assigned residential unit as part the induction process. These officers provide support and advice throughout a prisoner’s time at Jurby and ensure that contact with family and friends are maintained.

The custody support officers work alongside the resettlement team, healthcare and other departments within the prison and are responsible for guiding prisoners through their time in custody including their (Resettlement plans (Sentence planning). During this process, various risk and needs assessments are conducted in relation to offending behaviour, addiction issues, homelessness, employability etc. Prisoners, who have issues identified, receive advice on how to access support to resolve them. They may also be referred to offending behaviour programmes to address particular requirements.

Custody support officers review each prisoner’s situation at least once a week and are responsible for compiling various reports on prisoners, which may include incentives and earned privileges reviews, security risk reviews, prison employment, parole reports, etc.
