How to stay healthy in winter

Feeling unwell?

Tell us about your symptoms

Our symptoms reporter helps build a picture of what illnesses are circulating in the Isle of Man.

Viruses like flu, COVID, coughs and colds, and norovirus spread more easily in the colder weather when we are all indoors. So this winter it is vital that we look after our own health and that of our neighbours and do our best to reduce the spread of viruses. Cold weather can make some health problems worse and even lead to serious complications, especially if you are 65 or older, or if you have a long-term health condition.

There are simple things you can do at home to stay healthy such as keeping warm making sure you have adequate supply of remedies for common winter illnesses, checking in with friends and family and remembering to wash your hands at important times throughout the day.

You can also look outside the home to those friendly community services we have come to rely on, such as asking your local pharmacist for the best winter remedies, joining exercise groups to help stay active and finding out what vaccines you are eligible for.
