March Student Awards Update
IoM Budget 2019 – Student Awards
An additional £1.5m allocated for student awards funding in the recent budget is intended to support lower income families whose children want to attend University. As stated by the Treasury Minister, a scheme detailing the allocation model for this is currently being finalised. The levels of support under the new scheme will be detailed in the revised Student Award regulations for which approval will be sought from Tynwald in April. (Details will be communicated by DESC in due course.)
Separately, the National Insurance Holiday Scheme coming into effect this year, will aim to encourage the return of Manx educated students by enabling them to apply for a refund on their National Insurance in their first year. This will be capped at £4,000. (For further details contact the Department for Enterprise on 686401.)
Loan Agreements update
Loan Agreements reminders have been sent out to those students who applied for a loan for the first time from the Department as part of their support package and are yet to return them. If you have not returned your agreement you must do so as soon as possible. Please send scanned signed copies of the signature page to SAloanrepayments@doe.gov.im.
Delays in receiving your signed Loan Application will cause delays in your payments being made to your University.
Verification of Contributor’s Income
All Student’s Contributors should now, if they haven’t already, provide us with a copy of their 2017/18 Resident Assessment Notice issued by the IOM Tax Office. If you have your own business or you are self-employed you should also provide us with copies of your Accounts. Delays in receiving these documents will results in delays to 3rd Term Payments and Maintenance Payments.
