Student grants

The Department of Education Sport and Culture provides financial support for students undertaking further or higher education, subject to them meeting certain eligibility criteria laid out in the Regulations approved by Tynwald. 

This site provides a general outline of the funding available for students commencing the first year of their course in September or October 2018 and for continuing students. This information is provided for guidance only as each applicant must be assessed on individual circumstances based on the details provided in their application and the Student Awards Regulations. Applicants are required to read the available guidance before making an application for an Award. 

Particular attention should be given to the sections explaining the contribution you will need to make towards your tuition fees and the availability of loans to cover this contribution.

December Student Awards Update

Loan Agreements update

We’re pleased to say that we have now sent out all Loan Agreements for those students who applied for a loan for the first time from the Department as part of their support package. 

  • If the signed agreement is not returned then the Department will not pay the contribution amount to the institution, who will then request payment directly from you.
  • Scanned copies of page 16 of the document, signed by yourself, are acceptable and can be sent to
  • Alternatively your signed copy of Page 16 can be sent to Student Awards Team, Department of Education, Sport and Culture, Hamilton House, Peel Road, Douglas, IM1 5EZ.
  • Please be aware we do not need the entire document sending back to us.  It is only Page 16, signed by yourself, we need returned.
  • If you have applied for a Loan for the first time and haven’t received any documents from Student Awards then please contact us at

Delays in receiving your signed Loan Application will cause delays in your payments being made to your University.

The next set of Maintenance Payments will be made in January 2019

Please be aware that Student Awards will be closed on 25, 26 and 31  December and the 1 January. We will reopen on 2 January 2019

Important note

Students from the Isle of Man are not eligible for a loan from the UK Student Loans Company.
