Securing Added Value and Efficiencies (SAVE) Programme

To be a financially responsible government while delivering appropriate services for our nation is a priority of our Programme for Government.

Government must save £25 million over the next five years to help balance its budget.

The challenge for us all – the public, Tynwald Members, government departments and its employees - is to identify opportunities, initiatives and projects to help meet this target.

We invited you to join our challenge on how we could deliver our public services in new and innovative ways. You were invited to submit your ideas during April/May 2017 using our online Dialogue ideas hub. These included for example, outsourcing, partnering and using technological solutions. Postcards and SAVE newspaper advert reply slips have also been included to encourage those without online access to take part.

You responded with over 1,300 ideas!

We have now entered a stage of review and consolidation of your ideas.  It is our priority to identify those ideas which can help meet the £25million target.

What next?

All ideas will be assessed by the SAVE team for the consideration of the Council of Ministers in summer 2017. Council will decide which to develop further and put into action. The projects selected will help Government achieve the budget reduction target of £25 million, as outlined in Treasury's 2017-18 Budget.

The SAVE programme team was appointed in February 2017 by Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK and includes: Bill Shimmins MHK, David Ashford MHK, and Lawrie Hooper MHK, supported by officers from the Treasury and Cabinet Office.
