London 2012 Lottery Board Scam
A new potential scam has been brought to the attention of the Office. The scam involves consumers being advised by letter that as a result of a draw they are entitled to a lump sum payout.
A significant amount of personal details are requested so that the alleged payout can be made.
The letter is suggestive that it has been issued by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Limited and is headed up with the logo used by the Committee. It also asks for the consumer to keep the details of the correspondence confidential.
First and foremost, remember: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Don't be afraid to put such correspondence in the bin.
Consumers are advised to consider discussing any such contact or correspondence with friends or relatives or to seek advice from the Office of Fair Trading on 686500.
