Beware of Bank Scam
The Manx Public are being warned to be on their guard after a local resident lost hundreds of pounds to a bank scam.
The victim was targeted by conmen who told her that they were calling from her bank as there had been fraudulent activity on her account.
A series of phone calls and text messages followed during which the conmen managed to obtain sufficient information to access the victim’s bank account which resulted in a loss of over £400.
Faced with a worrying phone call from a bank, the best course of action is to take the name of the person calling and ring them back on a number that you look up in the phone book yourself – this way you KNOW that you are speaking to your bank. Do not call them back on a phone number which they give to you because it could easily be bogus.
Consumers are warned to be suspicious of any sort of unsolicited email, letter or phone call.
If you feel that you may have been targeted by such a scam, consumers are urged to cease all contact immediately and contact the local police on 631212.
