For more than three decades, King Harald served the people of Norway with distinction, integrity and an unwavering sense of duty. Throughout his reign, he represented his nation with dignity and humility, earning the respect and admiration of people both within Norway and across the international community. Flags have been flown at half-mast to acknowledge the King's death.
In 2002 King Harald and Queen Sonja visited the Island as guests of honour for the Tynwald Day celebrations. During their visit, they opened the ‘Norway: The Sea Kingdom’ exhibition at the House of Manannan in Peel and unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the occasion. The visit served as a reminder of the enduring historical and cultural links between Norway and the Isle of Man, connections which continue to be valued today.
As a nation with deep Norse roots, the Isle of Man recognises the special significance of the relationship between our communities. King Harald is remembered not only as a respected monarch, but also as a statesman whose life was dedicated to public service and to the welfare of his people. Our sincere condolences are extended to Her Majesty Queen Sonja, His Majesty King Haakon VIII, members of the Norwegian Royal Family and the people of Norway.
