Prospective candidates for the General Election 24 September 2026 can today (24 September 2025) formally declare their intention to stand and begin campaigning.
Comprehensive information about the General Election is available online. Find out about the process, how to stand as a candidate, how to vote, legislation, accessibility and polling stations. Prospective candidates should contact the Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) of the area in which they intend to stand – details for confirmed DROs are online at gov.im/elections.
With the election now 12 months away, today also marks the beginning of the period when all candidates must record their expenses, donations and relevant interests under the Elections (Keys and Local Authorities) Act 2020.
- Expenses include promotional materials, events and advertising
- Donation statements, whether monetary or in-kind, should record donor details and amounts
- Relevant interests include business directorships, affiliations with trade unions or professional associations

To be eligible to stand for election, candidates must be 18 years or over, a British citizen or have the right to remain in the Island, and meet residency criteria. Candidates must also be a registered elector in the Isle of Man and not legally disqualified.
Taking part in elections is a fundamental democratic right. Voting gives you a voice, lets you express your opinions and helps your representatives make decisions.
To be able to vote your details must be on the electoral register and they must be correct. Update your details if you have moved or changed your name.
