Opportunity to become a member of the Citizens’ Forum on Climate Change

Thursday, 24 September 2020

The Isle of Man Government is seeking 12 people who are interested in sharing their views on climate change and becoming members of the Citizens’ Forum on Climate Change. It is a unique opportunity for Isle of Man residents, with views for or against climate action, to be involved in the Island’s response to climate change.

If selected to join the team, members will hear balanced evidence from a wide range of people including academics, researchers and campaigners before sharing their views with the Climate Change Transformation Board, the main decision making body for Government climate action.

Anyone can apply to the citizens’ forum and be a representative for their community. The 12 selected applicants will join a further 24 members that will be invited to join or selected at random from the electoral register.

Minister for Policy and Reform, Ray Harmer MHK said:

‘We are looking for enthusiastic individuals, willing to share their views and represent their community on climate issues as we move toward a net zero carbon emissions future.

‘The changes that will come with the delivery of the climate change action plan will affect our entire Island community so it makes perfect sense that we involve representatives from the community.’

Citizens' Forum on Climate Change Chair, Mr Ralph Peake MHK added:

‘This is a unique opportunity, and a hugely important one, to not only ensure we have the views of, and engagement with, our Island community but also to provide a platform to challenge government’s approach.

‘It is my hope that we can get a good mix of representatives that includes those with strong views for or against climate action as well as those that are yet to form an opinion. With a diverse forum we can be better positioned to represent the Island as a whole.’

The deadline for applications is 11 October and the first meeting is planned for 28 October.
