Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations come into force

Monday, 2 March 2020

Strengthened legal powers to help protect people against the possible spread of coronavirus have been introduced on the Isle of Man.

The Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations 2020, which came into force last week, enable emergency measures to be put in place should the virus pose an imminent threat to health.

The regulations will bring the Isle of Man in line with England and are part of the Government’s overall response to the respiratory disease Covid-19.

The increased powers are designed to help reduce the risk of the virus being spread from one person to another on the Island, by keeping people in isolation where public health professionals believe there is a reasonable risk they may have the virus.

There has been no change in the overall assessment of risk to the Island’s population from coronavirus, which remains ‘moderate’, whilst the risk to individuals remains ‘low.’
