Aspiring musicians have been encouraged to apply for the annual Roz Kelly Music Bursary which offers two students up to £1,000 each to help with their studies at a UK summer school.
The fund was set up in 2018, thanks to the generous bequest of the talented and accomplished musician Roz Kelly, who passed away in 2015.
Roz wanted to help young musicians to have the opportunity to participate in music.
Graham Cregeen MHK, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture said:
‘This is a great opportunity for students to develop their musical skills in the UK this summer.’
'Applicants can focus on any genre or style of music, from classical to rock or pop, folk music or musical theatre.’
Applications are open to Isle of Man residents aged 16 – 21 who are able to demonstrate their musical promise and enthusiasm through a written application and provide a written recommendation from a teacher or mentor.
The funding can be used towards the cost of travel and participation at a music summer school of their choice.
Milly Nodwell, who won the bursary in 2019, chose to go to the brass and percussion course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
She said:
‘The summer school allowed me to take the next step in my music career and motivated me to practice even more to achieve my goals.’
