Designation of ministerial duties for Home Affairs

Tuesday, 25 February 2020

The Health and Social Care Minister David Ashford is to take up ministerial responsibility at the Department of Home Affairs on an interim basis, following the death of Bill Malarkey.

The Chief Minister Hon. Howard Quayle has given Minister Ashford the minister’s designation with immediate effect, and in the short term it means Mr Ashford is the political lead in both departments, pending the permanent appointment of the next Home Affairs minister in due course.

Mr Malarkey passed away last week in hospice, surrounded by family, after a long illness. He continued to fulfil duties as Minister for Home Affairs and as MHK for Douglas South until his death.
