International development

Charities aiming to make positive contributions through their work in developing countries are being invited to apply for funding from the Isle of Man Government to support their projects. The International Development Partnership (IDP) funding stream is open to applications from 14 December 2020 – 29 January 2021.

The IDP funding stream was established to create long term partnerships between the Isle of Man Government and a small number of respected and recognised international charities to facilitate lasting and sustainable change.

For the 2021 – 2023 period, the Isle of Man Government has chosen two themes. For each of these it will be looking to establish one partnership. A partnership might be a single charity or a consortium.

The themes to be addressed in 2021-2023 are:

Climate change:

Helping communities or groups affected by climate change; or - helping communities or groups to reduce their carbon footprint or emissions. For this theme only applications for projects taking place in a country or countries ranked as Low Development on the United Nations Human Development Index will be considered eligible.

Displaced persons:

Helping communities or groups affected by political or environmental events and displaced within their own country or globally. For this theme, applications for projects supporting displaced persons in countries not ranked as “Low Development” will be considered eligible.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle MHK said:

‘The Isle of Man has been supporting projects that assist developing nations and their people for well over three decades, and we currently commit £2.5million of direct funding annually to the international development budget.

‘As we continue to implement our own climate action plan it is also important to do our part as a responsible Island to help those less fortunate than ourselves decrease their carbon footprint. Through the work of charities this funding will also go a long way to help those who are forced out of their homes by political upheaval or environmental disaster. This is an area that resonates with many Manx people and I am very happy that we have been able to reflect this through this particular funding.

‘Our community can be very proud of what this funding has achieved to date in assisting some of the world’s most vulnerable people. I look forward to building relationships with charities capable of delivering targeted and effective sustainable development.’

Funding provided by the Isle of Man Government will be used to deliver all, or a clearly identifiable part, of a specific project. The total amount of funding available for each project is £1.5million across the two year period.
