Manx Youth Wind Orchestra Christmas Show

The Manx Youth Orchestra (MYO) will perform its annual Christmas Festival Concert at the Villa Marina in Douglas on Saturday 12 December.

The MYO brings together 200 young musicians who meet weekly to form various groups including Wind Bands, The Manx Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Senior Manx Youth Orchestra.

Supported by the Friends of the MYO the concert will get under way at 7.30pm and include festive songs and carols that the audience can sing along with.

Maggie Richardson, Head of Music Service and conductor of the Senior Manx Youth Orchestra, said:

‘It is possibly the only concert of its kind in the whole of the British Isles, if not the world this year and I am delighted we’re in this position.

‘After a six month break we were a little worried before our first rehearsal but from the very first week we have been bowled over by the commitment from our young players who have responded so energetically and joyfully to the repertoire for this concert.'

The programme will include music by Haydn, Sibelius, Leroy Anderson, Alan Fernie, Stevie Wonder and Taylor Swift as well as songs from the movies.

Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, said:

‘This fabulous concert is a great way to kick start your Christmas celebrations and enjoy the immense talent of the Island’s most gifted young musicians.'

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children and are available from the Villa Marina reception, online at www.villagaiety.com or at the Welcome Centre in Douglas. Proceeds will be equally shared between the Friends of the MYO and The Teapot Trust.
