European Union Sanctions: Yemen

The European Union (Yemen Sanctions) (Amendment) Order 2020 (“the 2020 Order”) and Yemen Sanctions (Amendment) Regulations 2020 (“the Regulations”) came into operation on 9 April 2020.

The 2020 Order applies in Island law Council Regulation (EU) 2020/488 of 2 April 2020 amending Regulation (EU) No 1352/2014, in accordance with UNSCR 2511 (2020) concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Yemen. The 2020 Order emphases the importance of facilitating humanitarian assistance, and provides that the Sanctions Committee may authorise certain activities necessary to facilitate humanitarian assistance.

The Regulations amend the Yemen Sanctions Regulations 2015 to take account of the amendment of Regulation (EU) No 1352/2014.The Schedule to the 2015 Regulations is amended to update the list of persons to whom the Treasury may disclose information in relation to the EU Regulations and makes some minor consequential changes.
