Residents urged to complete GP surveys before deadline

Tuesday, 8 October 2019

The deadline for submitting responses to the Island’s GP Patient Survey is fast approaching. Eight and a half thousand people who were selected at random to receive a survey, have until Friday 18 October 2019 to complete and submit their copy.

The survey, which is being run by Ipsos MORI, has been commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care, with the feedback helping to shape the development of services in the future.

The survey covers a range of topics to assess what matters most to patients and where services may need improvement or change. Each section asks questions relating to personal experience on:

  • accessing GP Services
  • making an appointment
  • general health
  • out of hours GP services
  • NHS Dental Services

The last GP Patient Survey undertaken in 2015 covered all aspects of the service provided and showed an overall positive response, with 92% of respondents confirming they were happy with services provided by their GP practice.

Minister for Health and Social Care David Ashford said:

‘Gathering and listening to patient feedback is an important way of assessing how services are performing. This survey offers a representative sample of the Island’s population the opportunity to have their say on our vital GP services, and in doing so, shape their future development.’

The survey comes with a pre-paid envelope which is addressed to the GP Patient Survey, and no other address details are needed on the envelope.

The collated results will be analysed by Ipsos MORI and the full results of the survey will be published at the end of November 2019.

In addition to this survey, patients are also reminded that they can give feedback on GP services at any time.
