Government launch Brexit checklist for Isle of Man food manufactures

Thursday, 7 March 2019

The Isle of Man Government has launched an online Brexit checklist for Isle of Man food manufacturers.

The checklist, which has been produced by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA), provides guidance on dealing with anticipated changes to food exportation from the Isle of Man to the UK and EU.

Geoffrey Boot MHK, Minister for DEFA, said:

'Isle of Man food manufacturers play a large part in our Island's culture and reputation as a high quality food destination through their products, which are sold and consumed worldwide. Brexit brings a level of uncertainty to these businesses and it's important that we help support the industry as much as possible during this period and after Brexit too. The checklist covers a number of areas that may affect a businesses' trade, which we hope will assist local businesses in preparation for Brexit.'

The Brexit checklist has been produced to ensure that food exporters consider all aspects that may affect their ability to export products and provides advice and links to more detailed guidance. As more clarity on some areas affecting exports becomes available further information will be added.

Twenty-four people representing eight local food manufacturers and businesses recently attended an event organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Isle of Man Government which was hosted at DEFAs headquarters on Wednesday 27 February. The event was used to provide more information on Brexit, support available, and gave businesses the opportunity to ask questions.
