Tynwald approves appointments to Steam Packet board

Wednesday, 16 January 2019

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK has welcomed the appointment of three non-executive directors to the board of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, following Tynwald approval yesterday (Tuesday 15 January).

Philip Dearden, Captain Simon Pressley and David Oldfield will join the board for a period of three years, with an option to renew for a further two years.

Mr Cannan said:

‘I am delighted these appointments have been approved, and look forward to the new directors contributing to the success of the Steam Packet under government ownership.

‘The successful candidates bring with them many years of experience in accountancy, shipping and the maritime industry and will be an asset to the company as it enters a new phase in its rich history.’

A recruitment process took place in November last year following the Isle of Man Government’s purchase of the company in May 2018, which was aimed at providing long-term stability to the ownership of the Island’s lifeline ferry operations.

The company will continue to operate as a commercial enterprise at arm’s length from Government.
