Keep moving with new-look Read The Signs app

Monday, 14 January 2019

The popular Read The Signs mobile phone app has been upgraded and now includes a number of new features, including a fresh new look and improved graphics.

Launched in 2014, the app has been downloaded thousands of times and allows both Apple and Android users to check what is being shown on the Matrix electronic traffic information signs around the Island.

The signs display important messages for road users such as weather warnings and temporary or emergency road closures. They are updated 24 hours a day and the information on the app is refreshed every five minutes.

One of the key improvements will offer the opportunity to receive notifications when the message on a specific sign is changed. The new version will also allow a user to prioritise a list of their favourite signs rather than viewing the full list.

Using the new map view, the signs can be found by zooming in at their locations, and clicked to see their current message.

Signs that have something on their display will be clearly marked and each will show the date and time when they were last updated.

Kate Lord-Brennan, Member with responsibility for Highway Services, said:

‘Read The Signs app allows many people to plan their journeys with confidence and the new features are designed to bring the app up to date, in terms of how it looks and works.’

The app should update automatically for existing users. New users can download the app at Apple’s iTunes store or the Google Play store.
