Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK has confirmed that a recruitment process to appoint a new Chair of the Isle of Man Steam Packet has begun.
The Treasury is undertaking the process as sole shareholder following the Isle of Man Government’s purchase of the company in May 2018, which was aimed at providing long-term stability to the Island’s lifeline ferry operations.
The post will become vacant on 31 March 2020 when Robert Quayle retires after 11 years as chairman and more than 20 years as director.
Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK said:
‘The next few years promise to be an exciting time in the long and proud history of the Steam Packet - work has now started on the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal in Liverpool and the company is currently consulting the public as it plans major investment in its fleet.
‘The role of Chair is crucial to establishing the strategic direction of the Island’s sea services, including these developments, and I look forward to considering applicants with the necessary experience and business acumen to oversee and support the board.’
He added:
‘While looking forward to the future, it’s important to acknowledge the part played by the outgoing chairman during his time with Steam Packet, and I thank Robert for his long and diligent service.’
The role’s requirements and criteria have been published on the Treasury section of the Government website and an advertisement will appear in the Isle of Man Courier this weekend. Those interested in the post are invited to submit their application by Sunday 22 December.
