The Job Centre is expanding its Job Club service to include twice weekly drop-in sessions at Ramsey Town Hall, starting on Tuesday 6 August.
The move is designed to make services more accessible to people outside Douglas and provide services where they're needed, in collaboration with Ramsey Town Commissioners.
The Job Club has been held at the Job Centre at Nivison House in Prospect Hill, Douglas, since 2009 and aims to provide information, advice and guidance as well as access to facilities. It is open to anyone looking for work and is currently used by around 200 people each month, who are able to:
• Carry out online vacancy searches
• Make online job applications and use printing facilities
• Use the reference library
• Undertake research before interviews
• Receive assistance with job applications
• Receive assistance with interview preparation
• Compile a CV
• Post job applications at no cost
While Job Club will continue to be held each week day in Douglas, Ramsey's will take place upstairs at the Town Hall Library each Tuesday 1-4pm and Thursday 9.30am to midday and 1-4pm.
Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK said:
'This is a really exciting development and I'm delighted that our Social Security division has been able to work with Ramsey Commissioners to make this happen. The town and surrounding area was identified as being in need of support as it has higher unemployment compared with other regions and it was clear we could help by moving services closer to the people who need them.'

'We are delighted to be able to support this initiative, which devolves a useful central service to a local and accessible location. This initiative will make access easier for our northern residents and help to lower the Island's carbon footprint by reducing unnecessary travel. The Job Club will complement other services already provided through the Ramsey Town Hall and Library. We look forward to being able to work closely with Government and other agencies to expand the range of services able to be delivered locally for Ramsey and the north without adding any additional burden to the ratepayer.'
